Chaffinch
A chaffinch outside on the patio. Sadly I could see when I put this shot onto the computer, that it has "chaffinch leg disease". I blipped one with similar, but worse symptoms, before we moved house, in our garden in Warwickshire.
Yesterday some old friends ("old" in that we've known them a long while - they are both aged about 30!) from the diving club in Warwickshire contacted us to say they were staying nearby, so they came for supper with us last night. It was so nice to see them, and catch up. Unfortunately we found out that one diving buddy that we've known for about 35 years, is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He's a very private person so hadn't broadcast the news.
Tonight, 7 of us from our lane went to a pub quiz in a village a couple of miles away. Great fun was had by all. We split into two and had a ladies team and a gents. There were about 25 teams in total, and our ladies team came top along with another team. We then had a one-question decider, and the other team shouted the answer out before us, so were the overall winners. We had a really pleasant evening though. My birthplace came in very useful for one question - "What date was Shakespeare born? Day, Month and Year." As anyone who was born and bred in Stratford would tell you, as it's imprinted on our brains, it was 23rd April 1564. (Widely believed to be at any rate, as his birth was not registered, only his baptism on 26th April, and it was customary then to baptise at 3 days.) Several teams thought we must be cheating to get this correct, until I explained where I was born.
