Crown Mines
Another glorious day here in Cornwall.
( Sorry for all those back home who woke snow)
Spent the day with our friends K & G and their Collie dog Scrumpy, who are down here for a few days.
A walk along the cliffs from Botallack to Levant, where unfortunately the mine doesn't open until later this month.
However the views were wonderful. The sun turning the sea a beautiful blue/green colour, and the waves pristine white.
A must as always is a walk down to the ruined Crown Engine Houses.
Sorry this is a very iconic shot, but one I never tire of seeing.
They were built around 1815 to pump water out of the mine and allow submarine mining under the sea bed.
The shafts reached 570m and extended nearly half a mile out to sea.
The mines produced 14,500 tonnes of tin, 20,000 tonnes of copper ore, and 1,500 tonnes of refined arsenic.
Closed in 1895, they were preserved in 1981 by Carn Brea Mining Society
with the help of many individuals and authorities as a Tribute to Past generations of Cornish Miners.
This is part of the Cornish mining World Heritage site, and Poldark filming location.
After the walk we went back with our friends to their mobile home parked on a site near by.
We celebrated K's birthday with a late lunch of Cornish Pasties and champagne. A first! However a great combination. Can recommend it!
A very enjoyable day. My voice is quite hoarse after none stop chatting and laughter. We had 12 months to catch up.
Meeting them again tomorrow. As rain is forecast we are going out for lunch.
Just can't believe we have had such good weather so far.
Thank you all so much for your kind comments hearts and stars for my
photo taken from Hayle yesterday.
One I might frame when we get home.
