Philadelphia Flower Show
(Tried this upload sev’l times from my phone -failed. so now from PC.)
This huge dense ‘rainforest’ ceiling greeted guests at the entrance to the convention center Flower Show. The male/female heads in the foreground are a Dad holding his little girl (love the pink hair-bow); both quite fascinated with the flowering canopy (and justifiably so!). [more displays in the extras].
Unfortunately I found this display to be one of the few highlights this year. It’s a unique show; large exhibitors with landscaped areas on the concrete floor (how do they get a shed & waterfall in there?!?!), table settings, patio gardens, jewelry made entirely from plant materials (but looks like gold & real pearls & gemstones), potted plants, potted flowering shrubs (how do they transport the fragile stuff without breakage?!?!), miniature window-box pictures (made entirely with real miniature plants & dollhouse furniture), pressed flowers creating watercolor-looking art, and of course The Marketplace -vendors selling everything from wearable, real-flowers jewelry, to linens & window cleaners & pillows & lawn ornaments & chimes . . of well, you get the picture!
My disappointment was that there were not as many large landscaped exhibitors and not quite so many displays as in past years.
So my girlfriend & her hubby and I take the local train to Philly, have an early lunch at The Reading terminal, then to the show. Fascinating place the Terminal; eateries, bakeries, fresh meats & veggies, and vendors like you would not believe. (something like Seattle’s Pike Place) Always something new to experience; sites, sounds, smells, not to mention the people-watching!
Another Nor’easter snow storm is expected Wed. So I am glad I enjoyed the indoor Spring today !!
