Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2018 Thursday — What to Do with . . .

What to do with Mom’s possessions?

Mr. Fun finally placed his mom in a Board & Care private home today. He looked till he found her one with a private bedroom and her own bathroom. I have not yet seen it, but he says it is a beautiful almost brand new private residential home. This comes with a price tag of $4,500.00 a month. If he had placed her in skilled nursing facility, the price would be at or above $6,000.00 a month. We were told that Medicare does not pay for any of her housing, only her medical expenses. The Kaiser people have put her on hospice (the only terminal disease she has is life) and they now collect all of her Medicare.

She does receive her deceased husband’s small Social Security benefit (which is nothing to write home about) and a very small pension from the Electrian’s Union. So her home must now be sold. They built their home in 1955. She now needs the equity to pay for this board & care.

So as her only living offspring, Mr. Fun has the responsibility to clean-out her home, to distribute her belongings to grandkids, but the biggest job is to remove the enormous clutter. So, together we’ll work on removing the clutter (the mail, the magazines, the books, the DVDs, the CDs are enough to fill a dumpster). She has lots of real silver dinnerware, cut glass, and china plates, saucers, tea cups, etc. that belonged to Mr. Fun’s Grandma, but most of the younger generation see no value in those items, and she has a house full of furniture.

So today’s photo is of a webpage for an estate sale company that claims to do a superb job and complete the entire event in two weeks. I’ll let you know how truthful this is in a few weeks.
