Mary's corner
Every time I look around the garden at OGH I am reminded just how much I depend on the other volunteers, not the least of whom is Mary. She's 82 years young and puts me to shame with her fitness levels.
This garden bed (and plenty more) is a testament to her very hard work. It was a sea of seaside daisy, probably around a foot deep. She's got rid of all of that, and she's planted these lovely red flowering fuchsias, and heaps of lambs ears (donated by another friend), and lots of those tiny iris that flower late winter.
I'm going to try and point it out especially to His Excellency when he comes to visit on Thursday.
In the meantime, it's a public holiday today, and there's still plenty to do, so I shall pop up there a little later on.
What's interesting to me is that when strangers come and look around the garden, they always comment on how lovely it is. When we walk around the garden, all we see is more and more work to be done.
Maybe sometimes, we need to take a step back and look at it through the eyes of a stranger.
