Headed For The Cheatin' Side of Town
My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,
You may remember I celebrated Valentine's Day by making Er Indoors a playlist.
I am really very hugely sweet, I know.
It was a pain in the bumhole too, because I find creating Amazon playlists a lot more annoying than iTunes ones. And that is really saying something, given that using iTunes is like being repeatedly kicked in the swingers by the Technology Pixie.
However, having done it once, I found that IF I use both my iPad and my laptop at the same time AND the Amazon music app and the website at the same time, some of the pain can be removed.
(Basically, when one of them crashes - which is often - I just move to the next one. And keep a valuable store of swearwords handy.)
So now Er Indoors has LOADS of playlists to keep her happy. Look, I wrote them all on her White Board so she can invoke them during the day using the magic phrase, "Alexa play my playlist..."
And I haven't even finished yet! I spent my Sunday working on playlists entitled "1970" through to "1974". My grand plan is to do one for every year between 1955 to 2005, and when I've done that I will - POOF - explode in a little pink OCD cloud of joy.
I'm listening to 1970 now. Elton John just finished "Your Song" and I was just thinking what ARE your songs? What songs do I associate with you?
If Er Indoors and me have an "Our Song" it is Lyin Eyes by The Eagles.
No, wait. This is actually quite a sweet story.
You may have heard this before, but when we first met we went to a bar where they played music all night. They put on "Volare" by Dean Martin and I impressed Er Indoors by singing along, although to be quite honest given that half of the song is in Italian I could have been making up the most frightful sh*te and she wouldn't have noticed. "Lyin Eyes" came on next and this time it was MY turn to be impressed.
This chick knew ALL the lyrics!
And it is a REALLY long song!
"This one is a keeper," I thought to myself. So there you go. If she didn't know her 70's classic rock, I'd be a single man living with 20 cats now.
But actually, it's easy to think of songs that remind me of Er Indoors. I always think of her when I hear Livin' La Vida Loca for example. I think it is mainly because she bought me a "Ricky Martin Jumper" for Xmas 1999 as part of her bid to make me cool.
It totally worked. Shut up.
However, my #1 Er Indoors song would have to be For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield. This is because whenever she hears it, she reminds me that The Muppets did it on their show. Apparently a bunch of cute woodland creatures sang it as they hid from hunters. And whenever Er Indoors tells me this, she mimes the whole thing and sings the song.
For Fat Pete, it has to be Sweet Transvestite.
Again, bear with me.
That is the song you and I danced to at our big party that time, and for that reason, I think of you always when I hear it. Then there's Mandinka by Sinead O'Connor which always made you dance when it came on in the pub. So basically most of my musical memories involve you grooving.
But then of course there is Sailing By by Ronald Binge. I don't think even you can dance to that.
As for you, my dear Mad Dog. It HAS to be the Vengaboys. Look, I'm sorry but you brought it on yourself. I have a mental picture in my head of you dancing to that. However, if it makes your credibility feel any better, I would also add My Favourite Game to that list. Ooh, and the Going for Gold theme. I seem to recall you used to sing that to inspire us.
So actually. RX might have been ALL YOUR FAULT. Just saying.
Dear Princess. I cannot listen to Super Trooper without seeing you striking a pose in your kitchen. Seriously. EVERY time I listen to that song, there you are, pished in my head. Also Breakout by Swing Out Sister and of course this sodding thing, ye big bloody irritant that ye are.
It's actually fun listening to music purely from a memory point of view. Even if I don't associate particular songs with you, they usually take me back and the four of you are often involved in the memory one way or another.
You know what? I might need to make a MadDog-Princess-Auslaender playlist. But first I need to get working on "1975".
