Job offer

In the office when called up to my everyday boss, the Finance Director who was accompanied by the Personnel Director.

I was presented with a letter offering me employment with the German subsidiary of my company Grand Met plc. If I accepted, it was not to formally happen for another six months until 2nd October due to complications of "budget" considerations and in the meantime, I was to continue to report to my line boss in the UK but David would be my functional boss.

I should think it over and if agreed sign it. No rush.

It wasn't a great surprise, I had been out on a site visit with David the previous in Stuttgart and we had chatted. He wasn't 100% sure of all the terms and conditions himself. My Uk boss and I had also talked about the idea when I had to "entertain" him for 24 hours when he came to Munich on 18th January for I think his one and only visit to Germany. Poor guy had enough problems back in the UK and was pleased to have one less issue on his plate. An interesting guy, Peter W, wholly unqualified from a technical point of view but he could see the overview and had been having a hard time in the last few months when I was still involved in UK operations. Morally he supported my stance against my two peer colleagues, politically he couldn't. So having a beer in the Hofbrauhaus was quite fun and now we didn't need to make any pretences.
