An ordinary life....

Got a Cool Gene Pool...

It's been revolving doors here today.

Started off at 9.00am with a visit from the pool engineer to check the new part that was fitted two weeks ago as it seemed to be misreading the chlorine levels in the pool.  Turns out it was us misreading the chlorine levels in the pool and all was well.  Oops!  At least it was an easy fix.

Just after 10.00am Tesco delivered my order.  All present and correct.  Yay!

12.00 noon and H, the boss of the building company who did our extension, arrived to go over the defects list that Jamie the Architect identified yesterday.  It was great to see him too and hear that the company is going from strength to strength.  He deserves it as he has a great team who work hard and pride themselves on the quality of their work.

As I've recently spent a bit of time going through my old family photos to decide which to put into frames, I wanted to do the same with David's family photos.

I have two cardboard boxes that David's mum kept their photos in (very neatly I should say and almost all of them have the date and place and subjects of the photos listed on the back.  Diligence was her middle name) so I went through them this afternoon.

What a pleasure it was.  I have seen them all before but a long time ago and it was lovely to see the images of David's mum and dad as a young courting couple then as newly weds and as young parents to David's sister Eleanor (David didn't make an appearance till seven years after Eleanor.)

At the bottom of the second box was a framed photo of David's dad.  I couldn't get the back of the frame open to see if there was any information on the back of the photo regarding when it was taken, but at the back of my mind I have a vague memory of David's mum telling me he was about ten years old in it so that would be around 1939.  I also have a vague recollection that it was taken in connection with the Boy's Brigade but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I never had the pleasure of knowing David's dad as he sadly passed away when David was only thirteen years old.  David's mum often said she could see glimpses of his Grandpa L in Alan but I could only see David.  And then I saw this photo today and could see exactly what she meant.  A definite family likeness.

I have spent the last hour looking for a particular photo of my nephew Andrew (David's sister's son) at the same age as he is also clearly represented in the face of his Grandpa.  If I find it I will add it to extras.  I've put another comparison in extras with a younger photo of Alan.

I think this photo of Grandpa L will definitely be going on display :-)

In other news, Alan went out this afternoon and treated himself to two new pairs of trousers, two new shirts and a new jacket.  I wonder if that has anything to do with the rumour that he may soon start going to a club on a Friday night.  Watch this space...
