Monkey Brain
A grim day in our corner of Cumbria.
I couldn't settle, a bit of this, a bit of that, emails policies, writing - all half done then returned to and then half undone.
The squirrels kept me company for a while with their antics. I've taken to wedging monkey nuts in the tree to challenge them, the nuthatch seems to like it too.
In looking for a philosophy Friday I was drawn this week to Stephen Hawking. Obviously I've never met him, but I've read 90% of his most famous book and understood 10%. But I've referenced him often. Whilst admirable and contributing far more than I ever could, his always struck me as a life that I couldn't live, if I'm honest it fills me with dread, he must have had immense inner strength. Perhaps I put too much measure in the physical, perhaps my mind's too weak, and perhaps I was unfair to invoke his name in example, but I did.
And I know that until you've walked in someone's shoes, sat in their chair, seen through their eyes, until then you'll never truly know. But of course by then it's too late.
What I can say though is that he must be one of the finest examples ever of playing the hand you're dealt, I hate quitting, but I think I'd have thrown my cards in.
Philosophy Friday
We are only monkeys on a tiny planet, but we can understand the universe and that makes us special.
