The Joys of Travel #42

Hundreds of people struggle through check-in, baggage drop, “automatic” boarding pass recognition and the security semi-striptease. All are motivated by the prospect of a coffee, an orange juice and a sfogliatelle. When we finally make it to “the other side?” The cafes are not yet open.

But it isn’t just Naples. This week thousands of people were delayed for hours at Manchester Airport. By mechanical or IT failure? Staff shortages? No - according to an airport spokesperson - the delays were caused by “sheer volume of passengers.” You see, it is our fault. How could they possibly have known how many people would be wanting to fly using tickets they had booked months previously?
