A tale of two cities
- A busy day.
- A crap photo with my phone (hate using it to take pictures).
- A comment on sport and people.
A very short stint of helping out with an amazing village event run by amazing people first thing was followed by an extended trip to Sheffield with Jnr Jnr. First up was a little bit of walking around town in Arctic conditions, and then it was off to Bramall Lane to see United take on Nottingham Forest.
We were just walking ahead of the Forest fans who'd arrived on the train; they were surround by riot police, horses and all traffic was stopped as they walked, sung, swore, pushed and intimidated their way to the ground. The whole place had to stop and wait as a bunch of gobby gits took up thousands of pounds of public resources and time so they could get to the match without getting into trouble with a few home fans gobby gits and wasting even more public money and time.
The match was damn cold and a 0-0, so enough of that.
It was then onto the Arena to see the Sheffield Steelers host the Nottingham Panthers - proper rivals. However, the staff were joking with the away fans, we all sat intermingled where we were, there was not one police officer in sight and I heard only one swear word (that was immediately apologised for) in the two and a bit hours of the game. During the third period a Steeler's fan proposed to his Panther fan girlfriend on the big screen!
Same two cities, same rivalry, different levels of humanity. The only difference.....the sport.
What is it about football? I love it, but it is riddled with such vileness on so many levels. It's never, ever going to change.
Ice Hockey rocks!
