Gered Mankowitz

I headed up to the photography show at the NEC today. One of the things I wanted to see was a talk by Gered Mankowitz, the renown rock photographer.

He started his talk with a montage of pictures from his career, including Marianne Faithful, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Jam, all the way up to one of his most recent commissions, Fickle Friends, who I photographed a week ago in Oxford.

I had a brief chat with him after his talk, and he showed genuine interest in how they were doing, which was very nice indeed. I think he invests a bit more of himself into his photography than each band or artist is just another job.
