Narrow Ranges
It's fairly typical that when I should be doing prep for my upcoming adventures (see map in the background) I get distracted by something else...I suppose this is what we call procrastination.
We have a Technicians Network at work which I occasionally go to, and am glad I made the effort today because we heard about 'workable range' from a member of the Staff Counselling team. My very quick take on this is that it's the zone where we can cope with what is thrown at us, but if things get too hectic we end up in a stressed and anxious state; alternatively we become ground down/disillusioned and in a depressive state. Our workable range is dynamic, and can shrink dramatically if we spend too long out of it, resulting in normally trivial things causing distress and ultimately harming our health.
For the last 6 months I've spent a lot of my time in these two extreme states and very little in the workable zone, so it was really interesting and I went and looked up a bit of literature afterwards. Academically it's way out of my area of knowledge so is hard work but at least I understand the concept of models ("always wrong but sometimes useful" is a half-remembered and paraphrased quote).
All this was good because I had several hours to fill in town waiting for a trip to the Buddhist centre for another meditation session. Which was also really good. They do a regular weekly meditation session which I'd really like to go to but it clashes with something else.
