El Golfo and more!

It's been a magnificent first day.

We cycled over a beautiful pass, taking in Femés, as we made our way to our first stop at Playa Blanca. With a bit of sustenance from a lovely seafront restaurant, we made our way north, passing Laguna de Janubio and the salt pans before hitting the lava fields on the edge of Timanfaya.

Wow!

The contrast of layers of black rubble against green and red hills was incredibly striking. I wasn't actually expecting greenery but we're benefiting from being here in spring this time. Green shrubs and a number of different types and colours of flowers adorn the roadside too. It's much prettier than I'd anticipated.

We headed on up to El Golfo for another stop before taking what they say is the most beautiful road in Lanzarote, La Geria. What we loved was the small and low curved walls protecting grape vines. It made it look like thousands of fish scales across the hillsides.

It's felt like more up than down today but the famous wind hasn't been too bad and we've had some cracking coasts down to the sea.

It's Rich's first ride today since flu. He's was flagging a bit by the end so I'm keeping quiet about tomorrow's gust forecasts!

We finished off the day with an hour by the pool and half an hour in the hot jacuzzi. Bliss!
