Sap’s a rising!
Taken late yesterday afternoon on Geauga Lake Road (at corner of Fields Rd) before overnight heavy snowfall. Our county is known for its maple syrup with one of the highest concentrations of beech-maple forests, horses, and Amish in the US. Syruping will soon begin in the sugarbushes, followed by pancake breakfasts and maple festivals. Here’s a link to a nearby operation - if you click on the “13” in the middle of the photos you can see more and larger pictures. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2018/03/maple_syrup_time_at_swine_cree.html
Day 7 of cedar waxwings has a few dozen still in our yard, lined up like soldiers in the sycamore, flying back and forth to/from the hollies. I filled the feeders and suet for the other birds, and helped several inches snow melt on top of the heated birdbath. The robins and waxwings wait for the sump pump to gush out water then quickly descend to drink it up. Lots of cardinals today. And Mock of course terrorizing them all.
Thanks to whomever mentioned Robert Craig. I just started The Promise and it grabbed me from the get-go. Just what I need right now. :)
