Cowdray Cottage
Viscount Cowdray's 16,500 acre Estate and the town of Midhurst, West Sussex have been linked for hundreds of years. There are the Cowdray Ruins, remains of the Tudor manor house now partly restored and available as a visitor attraction, and the walled gardens, forestry and agriculture. There are venues and filming locations to hire, corporate, leisure and hospitality events all catered for.
Polo is a popular fixture in the Midhurst calendar and has been played at Cowdray for a hundred years, the highlight being the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Championships, which attracts international players. And then there's the Cowdray Golf Club. All contributing to the economy and life of Midhurst. Oh and you won't be surprised if I mention the Cowdray Farm Shop and Tearoom, featuring local produce. Their sausage sandwich is amazing, I'm reliably informed.
Last week we stayed B&B in a Cowdray cottage - see here, painted dark green as it had historically been inhabited by the farm manager and his family. The workers cottages are all painted a rather garish shade of yellow. These cottages are now sought after to rent. Thought I'd show you one today, a rather nice example on the outskirts of Bepton, not far from where we are staying.
My apologies for sparse and brief comments lately. Unpacking a house takes so much time. And then we have to eat, need clean clothes and sleep - what a nuisance! I'll be back on form soon.
