A very small mercy
Over the past five years I've planted out about eleven citrus trees of various types. This early winter I wrapped them all up in hessian, against the odd zero degree night. However, we've had -10℃ and snow so most of them look utterly dead. I'm hoping that, once the current cold weather has passed, I'll be able to prune them right back and start all over again. At least two of the bushes are a good 17 years old. They look utterly miserable - and this is the south of France.
This morning I braved the winds (I have a mammoth cold) to find they had blown a single fruit a few metres from my sole navel orange. Is that a good sign? We'll have to wait and see.
