The Birthday Girl
Today is Sherry’s actual birthday and Geraldine and I made sure she was spoilt from the moment she woke up. We brought her tea, balloons, gifts and cards in bed and hung out for a while before we got ready for the day.
Once Eileen and Verna arrived from their hotel, we headed out towards Abu Dhabi to a place called ‘The Last Exit’, which is an American diner style food truck park with a variety of cuisines to choose from. Needless to say I made a bee line for Lebanese as I’m determined to have a shawarma everyday.
Lunch done, back to Dubai for a quick (one hour) stop at Ras Al Khor flamingo reserve, for feeding time. We enjoyed watching these magnificent creatures cackling away and move/walk in harmony across this bit of sand and were fascinated by how they graciously made way for the feeder to spread their food over the water. Three times they moved away and then gathered back together and elegantly devoured their meal.
Back home to change for the big dinner tonight, but first sundowners at an old haunt of the Lew family, Al Dawar revolving Restaurant at Hyatt Regency Dubai. Martin’s first place of work when he arrived here in 1991.
Al Dawar has 360 degree views of Dubai on the Deira side of town, but you can see as far as the Airport and Dubai side too. It’s been elegantly renovated, the best they’ve done in my opinion, and I really enjoyed being there after many years.
Dinner at Ashiana’s, at the Sheraton, was wonderful. We were entertained by Indian musicians and singers (who were too loud really) the entire evening. And the meal itself did not disappoint. Loved it all, including the complimentary cake they provided for the birthday girl.
We went back to Eileen and Verna’s for a final celebratory ‘golden’ bottle of prosecco.
(Extras aren’t bad ;-)).
