the devil...

...is in the detail or should that be the paste.

Since bingeing on Rick Stein's Mediterranean adventures and his references to Elizabeth David I've now got a couple of her books.
One is ' An Omelette and Glass of Wine' a collection of articles written for a variety of publications including Spectator, Gourmet and Vogue.
Chatting with Mum after our Thursday shopping trip...and spotting these in a shelf in Woolworths....she was 'full bottle' on devilling, potting, pastes and pates and Elizabeth David.

When we lived in the UK Mum would sometimes accompany Dad on day trips to London. While he attended meetings Mum would spend those hours in Elizabeth David's shop in Pimlico where you could buy anything a kitchen could  require...including a duck press (but that story  is for another blip).

ED writes about potted meats and pastes and whether these resemble anything vaguely like what she wrote about, the potted paste arrived in Aus in the early 1900s and is still on the shelves just waiting to be spread on a cracker or toast finger.
And yes the new market are the 'new nostalgics'...is that the same as retro?
Move over the 'avo smash'!
