Burrow Mump

A strange Glastonbury like Tor that protrudes above the Somerset Levels and is rich in history. It was occupied during the Roman period, and fortified by King Alfred in 879 to protect the upper reaches of the Tone and the Parret from the Danes. Later, it was to be the site of a Norman Castle, which was in turn replaced by a chapel that was partly destroyed in 1645 when being defended by Royalists after the battle of Langport.
