Carnforth Station
Today's the day ............................ to get steamed up
Lots of excitement today at Carnforth.
There was a special excursion run by West Coast Railways, based at Carnforth, due to depart around 11.30am. The heritage carriages had left London earlier that morning under diesel power - but at Carnforth, the wonderful steam locomotive, LMS Jubilee Class 5690 Leander, took over.
From Carnforth, they were heading up to Carlisle and then back down south via the West Cumbrian Coast. This is 'Leander' patiently waiting for the Virgin express on the left to fly past up the West Coast Mainline, before it occupied the same line at a more sedate pace behind it.
There were lots of people on the station platform with their cameras and big lenses hoping to capture something of the steamy atmosphere. And, of course, all the people actually on the train were only too pleased to give you a wave .............................
