Plague Church – Re-born
This is the church on Chellington Hill, near the village where my wife spent most of her life until we married (nearly 38 years ago). It is known as a "Plague Church" in the area, perhaps because villagers were supposed to have lived in the church to escape the Black Death.
It is beautifully set on top of a hill, with a good 4 neighbouring churches visible from it. I hadn't been there for several decades, but we visited today with small people, remembering a time when my wife and I were courting and we frolicked on the hill below the church.
The church has had a youth centre built on it, nicely in sympathy with the original appearance of the old building; it's a delightful place to be; here's the link. It's a shame that it is no longer used for worship, but its "re-birth" for the community is surely welcome.
One of the extra photos looks towards Carlton, in whose church I was married; that's another lovely little place.
