Marching, marching all around the town.....

This was one of many groups of drummers and flag bearers marching around Siena, Italy, this afternoon. Each group represents a different contrada ( district /fraternity)and each has their own colours, motto, patron saint and flags. The famous horse race the Palio di Siena gives them the chance to compete against each other in July and August. Seemingly there are contrada celebrations at various times of the year. This was obviously one of them!
