Buff-tailed bumble bee

Mr U&L and I visited Slaugham church this afternoon, and I was delighted to see several queen Buff-tailed bumble bees nectaring on some heather growing on one of the graves in the church yard. This one was quite friendly, not so the rest who seriously 'buzzed' me as I tried to take photographs! 
The Buff-tailed bumble bee Bombus terrestris, is found in a wide range of habitats across the UK. In cities in the south the species is becoming 'winter active' with nest establishment in October and November and workers flying all winter, although this one was quite big so I think it probably is a queen.
I have also added a shot of just some of the wonderful wild daffodils that grow beside the country lanes this time of year.
