Egret

The egrets at Spring Lake are very used to people, children and dogs, and this one barely stopped what it was doing when we stopped to watching it stalking something in the water. There was a green heron* trying to work the same territory but was being successfully driven off the plentiful hunting grounds at this inlet to the lake. I wasn't able to get a good picture of it since it was a little more shy of us,. I wanted to get a good enough picture of it to identify it since green herons are quite rare around here.

The rain was supposed to be over today, but the clouds came and went most of the day and when the sun was behind them it was pretty cold. We finished our walk with a visit to the new Acre Coffee downtown which is much less crowded than the one closer to our house. We were able to sit outside in the sun long enough to drink our coffee since we were still bundled up in several layers of down and fleece.

I was so angry last night, watching to the news on television to hear the anchor say what an uphill battle they had, "especially with mid-term elections coming up". I am so sick of hearing upcoming elections being given as an excuse for politicians doing nothing.

We were sitting less than a block away from the park where yesterday's March for Our Lives took place, and although the place was pretty deserted this morning, I was able to picture all those determined young people and feel a surge of hope  for them. It seems that upcoming mid-term elections are just the point. Many of them are able to vote and they will. Peter turns 18 three days before the June elections, and he has already registered to vote.
