Bridge House

Departure from York we headed over the Apennines to the Lake District. It was quite misty for the first part of the journey, before becoming truly foggy. Descending from the Yorkshire moors the weather cleared and we arrived at Ambleside.

A wander around the town during which we went for a coffee. It was too late for a cruise on the lake so we went on to Windermere for a further wander round the town before proceeding to our hotel and an excellent meal.

The Bridge House in Ambleside is a National Trust property. I suspect it may be the smallest property they operate, an one up one down, and the up is closed. It was built in the 17th century, and apparently by being built over the river avoided land tax. It is supposed to have been a summer house, apple store, and even a private dwelling.
