Had a wonderful and inspiring evening going to the inaugural night of Club Baklava in East Grinstead. Club Baklava is the brainchild of Hossam and Serena Ramzy and is a quarterly showcase for professional and semi-professional belly dancers in a club atmosphere. It's a wonderful opportunity to see world class dancers without having to schlepp all the way into London.

Hossam is the most amazing tabla player and composer (see his biog here) and has played with many big names in the world of jazz, rock and world music, including Led Zeppelin. The Drummaqueens are made up of students of the Ramzy dance school advanced dancers course. Understanding the rhythms and beats has helped them to become the fabulous dancers that they are.

Hossam is on the right of the picture, looking up at him is my teacher Bonita and next to her is the lovely Serena (who I also do classes with).

I didn't take too many photo's last night, it was a choice between this one and this one of Serena's sister Karima.


PS. The skeleton whose feet you can see dangling was part of the Halloween decorations in the club ....
