Temple Lodgings

Arrived in Koyasan this afternoon for some monk spotting. We arrived later than expected as there was a long diversion via bus as part of the train line had been damaged in a typhoon last October and was closed for repair.

We are staying in traditional temple lodgings which serve fabulous vegetarian food. The rooms have tatami mats, sliding paper screens and futons. The jury is still out regarding how comfortable a night’s sleep they will offer. Early start in the morning as we join the monks for their chanting at 06:30.
