My Girls at Rosemary Clooney's House

Even though it was a rainy dreary day, we took our former Florida neighbor back to her roots. She was born in Augusta, Kentucky in October of 1926...making her 91 years old. ( "Back then, we didn't go to the hospital. I was born at home...on Third St.")

While planning my route, I discovered that it was also the home of Rosemary Clooney, a popular American actress. Since we watch White Christmas almost every year with Al and Shelley (Naturelover), a movie she stars in...we just had to go.

Her house (now a museum) had one room dedicated to her nephew (George Clooney, who is also from Augusta), one room dedicated to Heather Renee French (the winner of the Miss America pageant in 2000...also from Augusta), and one room dedicated to White Christmas.

Just across the street from her house is the wide Ohio River. Said Faye..."I remember the flood of '37. It was REAL bad." (So cute.) The hotel where we had lunch confirmed her memory. It was several blocks back from the river, but the manager told us that the river rose to the hotel's second floor.

The Augusta Ferry (the backdrop of the Clooney collage) has been in operation since 1798. It was originally hand-pulled across the river. If it would have been nicer, we would have taken a ride on it. The price was right. 5 dollars (one way) for your vehicle, with the passengers riding for free. It can hold up to ten cars.

Good history, and a good time with our dear neighbor and friend Faye.

We pulled into our driveway at 10:25 p.m., tired and weary.
