Ringed Plover - Rossall Point

The ringed plover is a small, dumpy, short-legged wading bird. They breed on beaches around the coast and nest on bare gravel. This is a heavily cropped photo and it is a shame that I couldn’t get closer to the birds, but I didn’t want to frighten them off.

The picture was taken whilst on the Spring Birds Walk at Rossall Point Tower, Fleetwood. It was advertised as a walk, but I don’t think we walked more than 200 yards from the tower! So much to see, and other bird watchers had set up their scopes. Everyone seemed happy to stay put.

There were a couple of skylarks performing over the grassy bit behind us – I will go back soon to get shots of them.
