Bye bye 1970s
This is the front of Queen Street Station in Glasgow. It’s undergoing a huge and much needed redevelopment. Part of this is the demolition of an extremely unlovely 1970s hotel annexe which completely obscured the 1842 glass canopy (known as a train shed). It’s hard to imagine why anyone thought this was a good idea even in the concrete architectural past but it is so good to see the Victorian glass being revealed again. The work on the station won’t be finished for a couple of years yet but it’s certainly going to look far better. Delightful to see this piece of Glasgow’s heritage again.
The weather’s been anything but springlike today. I don’t think there was anyone on the open-top bus though Glasgow was mobbed. I went intending to buy something to wear at the weekend but left empty handed.
