Looking for the merchants

or ‘workers’ of Venice.

The Grand Canal was busy, and not just with tourists, all sorts of goods could seen on the barges, huge paper towel rolls, boxes piled up on boxes of who knows what. The first barge spotted was piled high with coffins, another had two wheel barrows and building materials. The green barge above was parked up and rubbish of some sort was dumped in here, there was another further along.

Luggage from the railway station was wheeled off to hotels and interesting to come across a group of men digging a hole in the road, possibly fixing a burst pipe, water was much in evidence.

No cars anywhere.

We travelled along the Grand canal on a ferry, had a mediocre lunch that stung the wallet (not one member of staff smiled in the restaurant, very different to our experience elsewhere not impressed) and a leisurely wander around the streets. It was better once away from the crowds. A group of lads from Serbia stopped John to ask the way (he had a map) he found the square and pointed followed by some sort of chat and laughter and off they went.
Wonder if the found they place.

One extra shows two tanks sailing along,
