The Little Prince

The hot afternoon sun helped me today.
This Horned Lizard soaked up a little too much heat, and
Scampered into a shady spot right in front of me.

I’ve only seen two others. Both on the golf course,
Mowed grass, not the most natural backdrop.

Though he lacks the streamlined appearance of other lizards,
His camo and flat body make it easier to hide from predators.

I hoped to see his sticky tongue snag an ant, but
The Prince with his crown of horns,
Waits for the bugs to come to him.
