Rail replacement buses

...no trains along the west coast mainline through Carlisle today, so the station was bizarrely peaceful (apart from the large contingent of drunk and unsuitably (for the weather) dressed people...they looked like they were going to the races).

I decided that my plan to ride home from my parents was not the best idea; with snow forecast, camping and cycling along high and steep roads in the Yorkshire Dales didn't sound like the best idea.  So it was that I spent my birthday cycling the 50-odd uninspiring km to Carlisle and then taking the train back to Leeds.  I'll have to find another time to ride alongside the Settle-Carlisle line.
