Brave face

This morning, workmen were cutting the steel girders around this building, which has stood since the turn of the century at least. An Olympic marathon runner called Harry Green used to have the already demolished shop on the corner in the 1900s. Its most recent incarnation was the dubious 'massage' parlour called Sparkles. We're relieved to see it go, but I'm not sure what's going to replace it. I'll watch that corner.

It was a tough day in the office. Yesterday, when I was working at home, my friend and colleague rang to say that there'd been an announcement and many of the staff of the small imprint were being made redundant. So, there were lots of brave faces around me - the news is still setting in. I'm relieved for those who are definitely safe, but I really feel for those who have an uncertain future ahead with mortgages and bills to pay. When it happened to me a few years ago (when I was full time there), it was both upsetting and yet a great opportunity. I wish them all the very best of luck.

Yesterday it was also announced that Penguin and Random House may merge. Two publishing announcements in one day. Good grief.

We had a great TV catch-up evening consisting of 'Hunted' and two episodes of 'Hebbon', which is absolutely hilarious - I love it. Yay for Vic Reeves!
