Remembering Poppies
With the evenings staying lighter for longer I can leave work a little early and have a couple of hours to explore the local area before heading up the M3 and home for the weekend.
This evening I stopped off at Shawford Down where there is a War Memorial in a prominant position overlooking the Itchen River. A couple of poppy wreaths still remain, and I thought they would make a good abstract subject for Ingeborg's Challenge.
I also took a walk down to the River Itchen, and the Itchen Navigations - a disused canal between Winchester and Southamption. I went along to Compton Lock where the river was in full spate, and I found the remains of the lock mechanism (extras)
