Welcome to the Thunderdrome
What a day! Took a trip to Glasgow to see the new Sir Chris Hoy velodrome for their annual Braveheart fundraiser.
Up until today I rarely watched cycling, Ok - I knew Sir Chris Hoy did well at the Olympics but couldn't see the point in watching cyclists going round and round especially when, sometimes, they didn't even race!
What a wake up call! I'm hooked. Fabulous day at the races today. Loved the tactics and the Drama and the Speed and the thighs !!! No 1,2 and 3 all had a great day out too.
Sir Chris was there to cycle an inaugural lap but also to compete as part of the Braveheart Team in Team Sprint and the Keirin. He was narrowly beaten by Robert (Thunderthighs) Forstemann in one of the heats - in a lap that brought the crowd to their feet.
A surprise visit from Graeme Obree on 'Old Faithful' and a nasty fall (and a broken collar bone) for Edinburgh's Callum Skinner all added to the drama.
The final race...the Kieran and Sir Chris won in a spectacular finish - to make Team Braveheart the overall winners. Extra photos can be seen here
A wonderful day out. Tea and cakes at Mr and Mrs Tickles, picked up Pedro the hamster from his holidays and back home in time for No 1 to dress up for a party.
Happy tired ! and tonight we are very, very Proud Weegies !!
