Once this was important...
Ten years ago the railway was working and the farm had cows that needed to cross the railway twice a day to get milked. Now there are no cows and the railway is unused. So there's no need to worry if the snow is pulling the gate from its hinges. (I am standing on the disused track.)
I find it slightly sad when I think how much work it was to get that now unnecessary gatepost into place, but alongside that slight sadness there is an appreciation of the beauty in the red fence post and the way it has aged.
