A Long Winter

A very cold morning. Extra shows why I didn't cycle. Where the snow melted, there are large patches of black ice. The snow has rutted on the road in to hard peaks of solid snow.

During the morning, the temperature rises quite significantly. On my lunchtime walk, there is no snow around the office. The Pentland Hills have also seen some melting, but they still look wintry against the blue sky.

The journey home is very smooth. There isn't much traffic, and the roads are now clear of snow. The pavements that have not been cleared still have some ice. It even feels springlike, the buds on the horse chestnut tree in Morningside are starting to burst open. It should be ok to cycle to work tomorrow.
