Pitlochry dam
Loch Faskally hardly feels like a loch, 700m across at its widest point and only 3.2km long it feels very much like the river it was before the dam at Pitlochry was built. The dam and HEP plant is one of 9 power stations making up the Tummel Hydro Electric Power Scheme. Scotland tapped into the potential of hydro early on and between 1950 - 65, 300km of tunnels were made and 54 power stations built. I love paddling here, an almost Canadian feel with steep coniferous forest and then turning a corner and finding this bit of working history seems really cool.
