A Day At A Time.

Party Line

To celebrate my impending 60th birthday, Jacqui had arranged a little party. It involved catching the train from San Roque and heading towards Ronda, where we would have lunch at a lovely hotel we know, before returning on the train once more.

The first problem was when we arrived at the station to find there were no rails! Work was being done on the line and so no trains were coming. They could have told us that when we bought the tickets, but oh no...

After a while, a coach came to take us to Jimena, two stops up the line, where the train would be waiting. But there were not enough seats for all of us.

Six of our party went by car and got to Jimena ahead of the coach. They needn't have worried, as we then sat on the train for 45 minutes going nowhere. But we did manage to open several bottles of cava to help ease the tedium.

Eventually we reached the hotel and had a wonderful, if slightly rushed lunch, as we were running an hour behind schedule. So as not to miss the train back to Jimena, we went back to the station spot on time.

And then had to wait 45 minutes, as the downward train had been delayed. But fortunately the tiny station bar was open and packed with people watching a footie match, so we were able to continue partying on the platform.

The cake was devoured on the train back and we arrived in reasonable order back at San Roque after another short bus trip.

My great pal Dave, whose 60th was last week, and his wife were staying in a lovely little hotel right on the beach, so we continued to party there well into the evening.

So here I am, a little fuzzy, posting this record of a wonderful day, enjoyed by all, despite the train company's efforts to derail my party.
