Party Time.
For various residents of Midlothian with their ethnic roots in Eastern Europe, it is Easter and, by the magic of social media, they all managed to congregate in the Glen to barbecue and party. The Blip is of but a small corner of the park. Credit where it’s due, they are not particularly loud, they put their barbecues on the concrete slabs provided for the purpose and not on the reconstituted plastic tables, and all their rubbish is bagged and left by the rubbish bins for the cooncil to collect the next day.
The Friends of the Glen were down there for a litter pick, though one of our number seemed to find it more rewarding to go around wishing all of our visitors “A Happy Easter” while her husband was being accosted by a van driver asking “Have you seen my rear bumper, Mate?” Said husband was able to answer in the affirmative, retrieve said bumper from the pile of rubbish and reunite it with its grateful owner. It has to be said that most of the litter picked had not been dropped in the Glen itself by visitors but chucked over fences from the occupants of cars parked in the adjacent lay-by; such litter included a 25 litre drum of used cooking oil.
