Teammates
Kalyn, Tyra and Kalissa have been teammates on the Academy club team and next fall they'll be teammates on the SFU team. So great that the three of them are going to uni together.
The team finished 2nd on the weekend and everyone played really well. Such great quality of volleyball.
Like so many others in the country, we're mourning the death of 15 people who were killed in a horrific bus/semi crash in Saskatchewan on Saturday. Eleven players and two coaches from the Humboldt junior hockey team, the team's play-by-play radio announcer, and the bus driver were killed. Fourteen people survived.
G and I coached for years and both drove teams thousands of miles in poor road conditions and severe winter weather. We've often talked about how thankful we are that we never had an accident with kids in our vehicles. Two girls that I coached from elementary school through high school were killed in two separate car accidents, one in her Grade 11 year and the other on her way home from college. Coincidentally, both accidents happened on exactly the same day of the month but two years apart. Those girls were like our daughters, good friends and teammates of our daughter, and we were close to their families. We sure understand the closeness of teammates, their families, coaches, and the sporting community. Thirty years later, we still cry together when we remember them. We have many happy memories as well. We know what the people involved in the accident on the weekend are going through and our hearts go out to them.
