This is a close up of a beautiful Whitefriars paperweight in my friend’s collection, which I have not seen before.
It was created for QE II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. You can see the crown pretty easily, and the dates, 1952 and 1977 to either side. At the bottom, you can just make out the queen’s cypher EIIR.
It’s too small to see but there is also the mark of the Whitefriars which is a tiny candle, at the very top. It’s white on a blue background. Because of my experience working with glass I have a very good idea of how much work goes into a piece like this. It’s amazing!
