Bell a'Phuill's House, Auchindrain

Very cold last night ,the sky was very clear, so this morning, although lovely and bright, was very frosty.
We decided to visit Auchindrain, from the Gaelic Achadh an Droighinn, Field of the Blackthorn Tree. It's the last surviving example of a joint tenancy farm township.
We have visited it before but not in such lovely dry bright weather.
It's a fascinating place to visit you can see the development of the township from ruined long houses to the last house which was added to the township in 1954.
Inside the houses and associated farm buildings are small displays of contemporary furniture and fittings.
One of the stand out buildings for me is Bell a' Phuill's House. This small thatched house was occupied from 1850 to 1915 by Isabella McCallum. Bell a' Phuill is Gaelic for ' Isabella who lives by the muddy place, the muddy place being the nearby ford where the cattle crossed the burn up to grazing land east of the township.
It was a great visit as we could take Maeve the Deerhound round the township with us.
Afterwards we went into Inverary and had a little stroll round the town.
We finished the day with afternoon tea at Kilmartin House Museum cafe which seemed a fitting place to end our day and our week here in Argyll :-)
