VICTORIA
The lakes in the centre of Christchurch were named after Queen Victoria and her husband Albert. They were made for an Exhibition. The larger Lake is Victoria and the small lake ( covered by trees-shown in background of this pic ) is the spring lake which supplies Victoria with its water flow. Several times Victoria has weeded up so badly the council (in their wisdom) emptied the lake and endeavoured to Bulldoze the bottom, to enhance its clay pan. You guessed it - the Bulldozer sank.
Anyway its a great asset to Christchurch and a very popular part of the Botanical Gardens. Here seen with autumn leaves just starting to turn.
