Lesser Celandine

More than two hundred years ago Gilbert White noted that the average first flowering around his Hampshire village of Selbourne was February 21st.
Indeed in years past I can recall them in flower on the Isle of Wight around that time.

This year in South Lakeland it was the very end of March before they appeared in our garden. We would normally expect to be three weeks behind Hampshire but this year the Beast from the East added an extra three weeks to our wait for their cheerful yellow cups.
