Richard 111 Tomb
Went in the Richard 111 visitors centre today, with my dad whilst he is visiting. We were a bit disappointed with this as it consisted of information printed on boards which you could just read in a book ie the guide book. The vast rooms were full of unnecessary filler eg a full size mock-up of a CT scanner with a fake skeleton to demonstrate that they scanned Richard's bones - or a full size mock up of a conference table complete with labelled microphones to establish that reporters talked about it!
The interesting bit was the grave site that has been left exposed and covered over with glass and shows where he was found. A ghostly projection of his bones show how he was situated in the grave.
We popped over the road to the Cathedral so my dad could see the tomb and this is a shot along one of the slots in the marble tomb top. The marble is flecked with hundreds of fossils and very beautifully sculptured.
We were told that the visitor ticket is valid for a week in case we want to go back! I had to stifle a laugh.
