Smithills Hall

We had never been before to Smithills Hall, and they were having an Open Day. Sold to Bolton Council in 1938 by the last Ainsworth, the Hall has a Friends group who clearly do a lot of good work.

The Woodland Trust were there talking about their good work. The moorland estate to the west and north of the Hall is the Trust’s largest site, and they have big plans for it’s improvement ( including enhancement of the woodlands of course).

We shall have to go back on a day when it isn’t raining, for a good moorland walk.
