Galway Cathedral + a Gull

A lazy day poking around the town of Galway.  The cathedral was built from 1958 to 1965 but we're glad to add it to our collection of cathedrals. We first approached it during 11:00 mass, and and the section we saw with a peek in the door was packed; thus it probably drew close to its capacity of 1500.

Our B&B faces a large expanse of water (marked approximately on the map) near the cathedral, and I spent an hour or so photographing numerous gulls. Herring gulls dominated: the bird in the extra is probably in its second year (they take 4 years to acquire their adult plumage). It is doubtless carrying food (since other birds chased it; the small bit below was swinging on a nearly invisible strand) . There were a handful of lesser black-backs, which I have not often seen.
